CyberFiction Virtual Book Discussion Group: "Reality Hunger" and "Axolotl Roadkill"

“There’s no such thing as originality anyway, just authenticity.” --- Helene Hegemann, author of Axolotl Roadkill as quoted in "The Free-Appropriation Writer" (NY Times, 2/28/10), although it may be that Hegemann is simply free-appropriating someone else's words.

“I am quite content to go down to posterity as a scissors and paste man” --- James Joyce, as cited in David Shields' Reality Hunger according to "The Free-Appropriation Writer" (NY Times 2/28/10).

The above quote (which originally appeared in the now out-of-print Letters of James Joyce, Ed. Stuart Gilbert,Vol. 1, p. 297) was probably first used to make essentially the same point as Shields by David Markson in his 1966 experimental novel, The Last Novel.

Reality Hunger is available for purchase from the CyberFiction Store and Axolotl Roadkill may be purchased from Amazon.com (UK) , as currently it does not seem to be available from U.S. book sellers. Hmmm...).
